Erlangen

Erlangen, a middle-sized town in Bavaria, is situated approximately 20 Kilometers from Nuremberg. It is known to be inhabitated manly by Siemens employees and university students. Therefore it has quite some cafés and pubs where you can enyoy your free-time.

How to get there & local transport

The main highways leading to Erlangen are the A3 and the A73. Besides that there is a developed public transportation system including bus and train. There is, however, notram system.

Activities

For a chilling evening the cinema “Cinestar”, situated in the town center of Erlangen, or a trip to the 3D-cinema in nearby Nuremberg is recommendable.

For a bit more action a sports match of Badminton or Squash in the Sportpark Erlangen is a nice option for spending one spare time. Bowling, Table football or billard are further activities you can do there. You can also have fun in adventure water pool “Atlantis” in Herzogenaurach, only 30 minutes away from Erlangen or in Stein near Nuremberg, where another fun and relaxation water pool is located.

Activities with kids

Enjoy your free-time, even during winter months, in the public swimming pool “Am Röthelheim Bad” which has open areas durinbg summer time and a indoor swimming pool which is open during the cold seasons. Furthermore you can visit “Atlantis”, an adventure water pool in nearby Herzogenaurach (max. 20-30 minutes away).

Must Do's

Visit the famous beer feast “Berchkirchweih” with beer from several local beer breweries and bands playing on the Berch (deducted from “Berg”, the German word for hill or mountain) which is situated in the north of Erlangen. The festival lasts for two weeks and is usually around pentecost (”Pfingsten”) which is approximately in May.

Day trips

Daytrips can be made to several cities that are about one hour or less away, for example Nuremberg, Bamberg, Würzburg. If you would like to enjoy nature on the other hand the Frankonian Swiss (”Fränkische Schweiz”) is not further away than those cities.

Shopping

The shopping area of the city is in the town center along the street “Nürnberger Straße”. There are not only cloths shops, drug or book stores, but anything else you need can be obtained there.

Food stores are located all over the city. Just ask for Handelshof, Kaufland, Rewe or EDEKA.

Outlet stores of Adidas and Puma are situated in nearby Herzogenaurach.
